Armare Ropes is proud to announce that it is the first company in the nautical-marine sector worldwide to develop and certify two EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) for its ropes. This important achievement underscores Armare’s commitment to sustainability and product circularity, projecting a company tradition that boasts over two hundred years of history into the future.
The strong focus on environmental issues has consistently guided our company’s decisions over the years. For this reason, we are proud to announce that we are the first in the world to have developed and issued two EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) for marine components with approved PCR (Product Category Rules that define the principles and requirements for drafting EPDs for a specific category of products/services).
We have chosen to use one of the most modern and sophisticated tools to publicly and scientifically demonstrate the environmental sustainability of our products. This initiative represents a concrete sign of the company’s commitment to establishing itself as a leader in sustainability and product circularity, responding to the growing demands for transparency and environmental responsibility from the market and consumers.
What are EPDs and why are they important?
EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) provide a clear and quantified assessment of the environmental impacts related to a product’s life cycle. Armare has chosen to apply this tool to ensure complete transparency regarding the environmental impact of its ropes, providing detailed information on various aspects such as resource usage, greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and waste production, demonstrating a concrete commitment to reducing the ecological footprint.
The first two EPDs issued pertain to two representative products from our range: the Star rope (10mm) and the Dyneforce 78 rope (6mm).
A new resource for Customers: the Environmental Footprint Calculator
To further engage its customers on the path to sustainability, Armare has developed an online software: the Environmental Footprint Calculator. This software allows users to calculate and compare the environmental impact of different ropes in our product range across various diameters. Based on the strict LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) calculation methodology, — the same that led to the issuance of the two product EPDs — this tool helps make conscious and informed choices by taking into account the environmental sustainability characteristics of different products.
A Future Focused on Sustainability
With the introduction of EPDs, the company not only certifies the quality of its products but also promotes a new approach to responsible production. From now on, every Armare rope produced can be accompanied by information on its environmental impact, and, upon request, specific EPDs can be made available for custom products tailored to clients’ needs.
This milestone marks the beginning of a journey aimed at spreading a culture of sustainability in the nautical sector, with the goal of inspiring concrete and lasting change for a better future for all.
